Construction progress on the S19 Deniski–Haćki section

A modern expressway is being built between Deniski and Haćki — a section of the S19 route, which, as part of the Via Carpatia corridor, will connect northern and southern Europe. This is not just a technical project, but an impulse for regional development and an improvement in the quality of life for its residents. For the Unibep team, this is a challenging yet highly rewarding project.

Halfway point behind us — with the lead

The project’s completion has already surpassed 50%. Earthworks are nearing completion — 75% of the work has been finished, and progress on the bridge structures has exceeded 55%. All preparatory works are now complete — including tree clearing, removal of fertile soil, replacement of weak subsoil, and demolition of structures conflicting with the route. Importantly, the full scope of piling work has also been completed — both under embankments and engineering structures.

What lies ahead is the continuation of structural, specialised, and asphalt works — a phase where speed and precision are just as important as the coordination of multiple teams.

One step ahead of schedule

The construction is not only proceeding according to plan — it is actually ahead of schedule. Thanks to a mild winter and well-planned resource allocation, the work is progressing one month ahead of schedule. This advantage is thanks to a team that plans every stage in advance, ensuring smooth processes even under unexpected circumstances.

Advanced technologies beneath our feet

Specific ground conditions, which varied and required diverse reinforcement methods, posed one of the biggest challenges for the engineering team. At the same time, for many employees, this is their first project of this scale — complex and fast-paced but also offering a unique opportunity for professional growth.

A variety of ground reinforcement technologies have been used on the Deniski–Haćki section — including BMC, CMC, CFA, and DSM piles, DR columns, and precast pile elements. This was necessary due to complex geological conditions — in some places, layers of peat extended as deep as 12 meters underground. To ensure the stability of embankments and engineering structures, it was necessary to install over 5,000 reinforcement piles, making this phase one of the most demanding and technologically impressive along the entire route.

Multidisciplinary coordination — a crucial test of organisation

The challenges of class S investments extend beyond technology. The vast scope of work, numerous subcontractors, and the investment’s logistical scale demand excellent organisation and communication. Daily briefings, ongoing progress analyses, and planning of next steps help maintain momentum and eliminate the risk of delays.

The project aims to minimise its environmental impact. Five crossings for medium and large animals and six ecological culverts for small species have been planned. Protective fences and guiding barriers for amphibians have also been installed. The construction site has currently been fenced off to protect local habitats.

Team and partnership — 250 people united by a common goal

Every project of this scale requires collaboration between the investor, contractor, designer, and investor supervision. On the S19 construction site, communication is based on transparent procedures and mutual trust — both formal and everyday. Regular meetings, reporting, and direct on-site communication ensure that every stage of work is well organised.

Approximately 250 people are involved in the execution of the project. Most of the work is carried out by specialised subcontractors — ranging from telecommunications and sanitary installations to power networks. Unibep’s key role is coordination, supervision, planning, and maintaining the pace. Thanks to proven collaboration and a shared goal, quality and efficiency go hand in hand here.

Commitment visible every day

For the Unibep team, working on this project is a source of pride. With each completed phase, satisfaction grows — both from the visible results and the investment’s impact on the region. The pressure of the first months has been replaced by a well-functioning work rhythm, mutual trust, and team energy.

“This is not an ordinary construction site. Here, precision, good organisation, and teamwork matter. We all understand that we are accomplishing something truly significant — for the people, for the region, and for the whole of Poland,” said Bartłomiej Kalinowski, Construction Manager.
