On Monday, 3 July, symbolic shovels broke ground, officially commencing the modernisation works on Provincial Road No. 689 connecting the cities of Bielsk Podlaski and Hajnówka.
Let us remind you that the investment implemented in the “Design and build” formula is the result of agreement concluded on 5 October 2020 between Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship Artur Kosicki and Infrastructure Director at Unibep Adam Poliński. The total cost of modernisation and extension of this road is over PLN 110 million gross. The Investor is the Podlaskie Voivodeship Road Authority in Białystok.
The first shovel in the construction of the Hajnówka — Bielsk Podlaski road was driven, among others, by vice-marshal of the voivodeship Sebastian Łukaszewicz, member of the board Marek Malinowski, mayor of Hajnówka municipality Lucyna Smoktunowicz, mayor of Czyże municipality Jerzy Wasiluk, mayor of Orla municipality Leon Pawluczuk, and Director of the Podlaskie Voivodeship Road Authority Mariusz Nahajewski.
On the same day, we started preparatory works, which required the introduction of temporary traffic organisation. Shuttle traffic is in effect in some places. The delivery date of the investment is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
When the modernisation is completed, the Provincial Road No. 689 will be a single carriageway 7 metres wide (2 lanes, each 3.5 metres wide, plus at least 1.5-metre-wide hard shoulder on both side for undeveloped areas) and it will have a corresponding street-wise cross-section in cities and built-up rural areas.
